Curatorial practice in the Central                 Asian Context

The presentation will be focused on the activities of Dushanbe Art Ground centre and the projects they developed between 2013-14. Stefan will talk about some curatorial initiatives in Tajikistan and his involvement in the production of “REIMAGINING THE NEW MAN. Practicing civic duties through social and visual media”, which analysed and questioned civic engagement and participatory practices by means of social and visual media in contemporary Tajikistan through public programs, experimental film workshops and itinerant public screenings in the cities of Dushanbe, Khorog and Khujand with participants from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. This presentation will include screening of some video works by artist from Central Asia from “Reimagining the New Man” project and “Video Forecast” exhibition presented in 2014 at AUB Galleries from Beirut, Lebanon.

About Dr. Stefan Rusu:

Stefan Rusu (born in 1964, Câietu, Moldova) is a curator, editor, visual artist and filmmaker based in Dushanbe,Tajikistan. Ştefan’s artistic and curatorial agenda is closely connected to the processes post-socialist societies underwent and to the changes that occurred in these societies after 1989. Since 2013 he relocated to Tajikistan, where he is involved in the development of Dushanbe Art Ground centre
