ALEE GARIBAY

Alee Garibay (b.1989) graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines, College of Fine Arts (UPCFA) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 2012. Alee also earned high distinctions from the Philippine High School for the Arts prior to entering the UPCFA, and was the Philippine delegate for the Visual Arts at the 2010 ASEAN Youth Camp, in Hanoi, Vietnam. She has received numerous awards for her works in oil and watercolour and was listed four times as a finalist in the Shell National Student Art Competion. She has been actively participating in group shows since 2005, and has dedicated herself to being a full-time artist since being conferred a degree by her alma mater, consistently holding a solo exhibition every year from then onwards. Alee currently resides and works in Cavite, where she devotes much of her time inside the studio to build up on her body of work that is primarily comprised of paintings. Characteristic of her pieces is the amalgamation of feminine figuration, chromatic non-objective abstraction, architectural structures, and a distinct gestural typeface, to express existential ruminations on the formation and/or dissolution of the self through relationships, memory, and places. Under Observation is her third solo exhibition.
